Suppression of humping bead in high-speed triple-wire gas indirect arc welding

Triple-wire gas indirect arc welding (TW-GIA) is a new technology with the advantages of low heat input and high deposition rate. However, humping bead restricts improvement efficiency. In this article, high-speed cameras infrared thermal imaging system were used to characterize formation mechanism TW-GIA bead. The physical model was established discuss force weld poor. And influence process parameters on studied. results show that increase angle reduced pressure droplet impact in opposite direction welding, which beneficial eliminate hump. When height lower than 3 mm, excessive led crater. greater 20 distance between droplets side wires far, forming “double bead” defect. addition, flow liquid metal shortened as current decreased, could suppress ratio total wire feeding speed 10, critical 360 A, increased increased. maximum bead-on-plate 4.2 m/min, 137% higher GMAW.
